electrictoes , mostly because I whined and she is made of nice. Even though I haven't written too many fics, I thought this sounded like a lot of fun.
1. Miles to Go: I started writing this one on a whim. I was listening to the Death Cab album Narrow Stairs, and it made me think of the Doctor and his fear of commitment. And then I thought, "What if Rose and Ten had a child, but he got so scared that he left her?" I thought on this for a while (like 2-3 weeks) without saying anything about it to anyone. Then I sat down to write, and the first chapter just poured out of me, 4,000 words in a night. I was quite nervous about it, though, because it was babyfic and had an OC. I held onto it, until one night I got up my nerve and toldsalimali about it. She, being the wonderful person she is, demanded asked to read it. I started posting it and it's now sort of taken over my life. For me, this is the story of the Doctor getting everything he's ever wanted: a family and unconditional love. I love love love writing this story and am so happy that so many of you enjoy it as much as I do.
2. Mending: I never intended to write a sequel to Both. Actually, I intended to leave it with Rose never being able to decide between the two of them. But Ten II (and a lot of readers) demanded that Rose choose him, and I saw it as the right choice. I wrote Mending as a fix-it piece to the havoc I wreaked in Both. I wanted to give Rose and Ten II some space to get back together, not tack it on in as a chapter of Both. I wanted Rose and Ten II to have a story all their own, a place where I could get them back together honestly and realistically, with stops and starts. I think we all breathed a sigh of relief when they finally got their act together.
3. Now We Are Older: This is another one that was written in a fit of frenzy. I was in the middle of writing Mending and Rose and Ten II were so so sad that I had to do something to give them a happy ending. This idea of them having a baby and just being so in love with each other and him was so incredibly soothing to me, and I loved the tone that this piece took on. And I love the idea of Rose as a mother. We always focus so much on the Doctor as a father, but I wanted to tell this story from Rose's POV, because this story, and all the others in this series, is about realizing that the things you have are pretty amazing.
4. Glasses: This was my first attempt at PWP. I'd written smut before, but never smut for smut's sake. This idea came after I saw a video with Billie Piper wearing glasses and I then had her wear glasses in a chapter of Both. I got to thinking that Ten II would probably find Rose adorable in glasses, and this story was born. Then I had had the idea that Rose may have glasses, but feel self-conscious about them. Ten II, of course, would have to show her how wrong she is. The rest is history.
5. Both: I had a lot of issues wth Journey's End. I just couldn't see Rose running off with Ten II and never thinking of Ten again. I found myself wondering what she would do if Ten showed back up, lonely and missing her. Thus, Both was born. I've actually put this one at the bottom of my list, because I am not fond of all the chapters. I don't like the stuff with Ten...he came off as much more of a jerk than I intended. However, this is the fic where I started to love Ten II, where he really developed as a character for me. I always say that this story wrote itself, and that's particularly true for Ten II. I never intended for there to be more than the first chapter of this story, but Ten II pushed his way in. His reactions in the second, fourth, and sixth parts of this story were so hot and angsty and perfect that I fell in love with him.
Thank you to everyone who reads my stories. I probably wouldn't even have five favorites if all of you weren't so accepting and encouraging. Now I'm back to working on Miles to Go.
