I'm not going to lie. I'm a little teary right now. I just finished writing Miles to Go. And don't even ask, I'm not going to tell you how many chapters you have left. You'll just have to wait and see. Trust me, you'll know it when you see it.

I thought that instead of putting all my thank yous, notes, etc all at the top of the last fic, I'd do it here.

First and foremost, a couple of notes on the story (if you don't want to read this, that's fine, but please skip down and read the thank yous):
As I've said before, this idea came to me after I got a little obsessed enamored with the Death Cab for Cutie album Narrow Stairs. (BTW, if you haven't listened to this album, you are missing out.) Anyway, the album is all about growing up, settling down, finding someone to spend your life with and hoping you've made the right choices. Maybe everything makes me think of Doctor Who, I don't know, but this album made me really think about some things. It seems that after 900 years, he'd be getting tired. Surely no one can run for that long and not at least want to slow down for a little while. While the Doctor doesn't "do domestic" I still think he desired that with Rose. Even if he knew he could never have it, he still wanted it. Still, i think it might be in his nature to run. Thus, this fic was born.

I knew that I wanted Ten and Rose to have had a fleeting romance that resulted in a pregnancy that resulted in Ten dropping Rose off in London in a fit of panic; he would then be too afraid to go back to her, even though he wanted to. Instead, he'd check in on her and their child from time to time. I knew that their baby would be named Kira, a name that was much deliberated, and which I finally settled on because of its contradictory meanings. The name would come into play with a prophecy idea I was toying with. I knew that I wanted Kira to be for the most part human, possessing only superior intelligence, but still a normal child.

That's all I had going into chapter one. I started writing, and things just happened. Rose shaped into this girl who had to grow up, who loves her child fiercely, but is still so heartbroken over the man she loves. Kira leaped off the page, forming herself as I wrote: she was lonely, intelligent, and demanding. She was a little bit of Rose and a little bit of the Doctor. I did not create Kira, she created herself. (On a side note: in the original chapter, Rose did not buy Kira her Chucks. But, I read it to Mr. wishiknewwho, and he said that Rose had to get her the shoes. I agreed and added it in.)

Anyway, the story picked up from there. It kept growing and growing, and it is the longest thing I've ever written. This is my first attempt at longer fanfic, and to be honest, I'm just glad it's coherent.

Thank Yous
The first person I showed this story to was [livejournal.com profile] salimali. We were im'ming one night and I told her about it. She wanted to read it, and I sent it to her. I was a pile of nerves. I'm not crazy about babyfic, and I didn't know what she'd think. Fortunately, she liked it. She has been a driving force behind this fic, prodding me to write, encouraging me, holding my hand when things got bad. Sometimes she read chapters several times. She always left little notes in the story, giving the characters her opinions on what to do (Slap him! Jump him! Don't do that! Say you're sorry!). She was always honest with me, and helped me to keep this story true to the characters. This story wouldn't be what it is without her help. She truly goes above and beyond the call of duty, and her insight is amazing. She's been a huge influence in the direction this fic has taken, and I couldn't be more pleased with the way it's turned out. I thank her for all the work she put into it.

My darling [livejournal.com profile] electrictoes is amazing. She is one of the first friends I made in the fandom and I love her to bits. She has been so supportive while I write this fic, always answering my questions and keeping me company while I write. I've thoroughly enjoyed our little races as we wrote together (she always won!) Early on in this fic, she gave me a thorough lesson on the British school system, which helped me immensely. I thank her so much for being so encouraging, for helping me through the rough spots, and always promising me that this was good. She's given me invaluable advice on the technical side of writing...she always notices when I use words repeatedly or when I lose the voice of the story. She became a big Kira fan, which meant a lot for my first OC. I cannot thank her enough for helping me with this fic. Also, she's a brilliant writer herself...if you haven't yet, go read her fic. It'll make your day.

The lovely [livejournal.com profile] tardismate beta'ed the first half of this story, but due to illness, couldn't beta the second half. However, she always gave me such encouragement. Her positive remarks kept me writing. I hope that she is better soon, and gets back to writing us some lovely work of her own.

The beautiful header and icon you see each time I post were created by [livejournal.com profile] corusca. She'd only read the first chapter of the fic, yet she still managed to get it perfect. I thank her so much for the time she put into creating them for me.

Last but not least, all of you that read and reviewed. I cannot begin to tell you how much your kind words meant to me. It's been a rough couple of months, but being able to see that you were actually enjoying something I'd written left a lot of bright spots on some very dull days. I thoroughly enjoyed reading all of your thoughtful comments and insights, your rants against Ten and Rose, and your support and love for Kira. This story wouldn't be here if it weren't for all of you. Thank you so much for making me feel welcome in this fandom.

Well...
That's it, folks. This story is done. Finished. Kaput. Good night.

Okay, who am I kidding? I might have something else (it does not start with an S) up my sleeve.
