Author: wishiknewwho
Rating: G
Characters: Ten / Rose, OC (Kira)
Dislcaimer: I don't own Doctor Who and it's probably just as well that I don't because it'd be nothing but hugs and hair ruffling for the foreseeable future. Title taken from the song "Christmas Day" by Dido.
Spoilers: None for DW; takes place in a world where Doomsday never happened. However, if you intend to read my fic Miles to Go and don't want it spoiled, you might want to wait on this one.
Summary: Wrapping presents.
Author Notes: Sorry about the wait. Christmas got busy! More of these coming today.

“That’s not how you do it, Daddy,” Kira said exasperatedly, coming to kneel next to him on the floor. He had sellotape twisted around his fingers, and Kira patiently unwound it.
The Doctor looked down at the little box he was wrapping. He was just about to tape the paper on, when Kira had interrupted him. “What am I doing wrong?” he asked, pushing the box towards her. He was good at a great many things, but he didn’t seem to have the facility with wrapping presents that Rose had. And judging from the only slightly wrinkled boxes that Kira had wrapped, it seemed that even she was better than he was.
Kira sighed. “You have to line the box up,” she said, showing him. “And fold the paper, so that it makes a crease.”
He watched as she neatly wrapped the gift. Except for a little billow at one of the corners, it looked nearly perfect. “Where’d you learn to do that?” he asked.
“From Gran,” Kira said with a little shrug. “She once had a job where she wrapped Christmas presents.”
“Like an elf?” the Doctor asked, teasing. Just the thought of Jackie...no, he wasn’t going to go there.
Kira frowned at him. “No,” she said. “She worked in a shop. They wrapped presents for people at Christmas.” She gave him a look, obviously unimpressed with his joke. Kira Tyler in a bad mood was a fearsome thing.
Kira grabbed a bow from her stack of materials and worked her finger under the backing on the adhesive, then handed the bow to him. “Think you can do the bow?” she asked. “Make sure you put it on straight.”
He was tempted to roll his eyes, but he restrained himself. He carefully put the bow on, afraid of what she might say if he didn’t do it perfectly. “There,” he said, admiring his and Kira’s handiwork. “Do you think it’ll do?”
Kira rocked back on her heels and regarded the little wrapped box. Finally, she gave a nod. “I think it is going to be perfect.”
Then she pressed a quick kiss to his cheek and went back to wrapping her own gifts.

Date: 2009-12-28 08:32 pm (UTC)I just know that Kira knows the mathematical equation for using the correct amount of paper to wrap the perfect present!
(and yes, there IS an equation!!)

Date: 2009-12-28 08:52 pm (UTC)So typical that the Lord of Time and Space couldn't manage to wrap a present without sticking himself to it with tape. I know what Kira was thinking. It's like watching my dad try to wrap something. It just gets so painful to watch that you want to snatch it away because he's doing it wrong! XD
