Title: My Love, On Christmas Day
Author: wishiknewwho
Rating: G
Characters: Ten / Rose, OC (Kira)
Dislcaimer: I don't own Doctor Who and it's probably just as well that I don't because it'd be nothing but hugs and hair ruffling for the foreseeable future. Title taken from the song "Christmas Day" by Dido.
Spoilers: None for DW; takes place in a world where Doomsday never happened. However, if you intend to read my fic Miles to Go and don't want it spoiled, you might want to wait on this one.
Summary: Christmas Day part two.
Author Notes: Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] nipplemuggins  and [livejournal.com profile] salimali  for the beta.  And I'm pretty sure [livejournal.com profile] salimali  requested this.

Jackie pulled the turkey from the oven and carefully placed it on the work surface. It smelled delicious and was roasted to a perfect golden brown. She could hear laughter coming from the living room. Rose, Kira, and the Doctor were playing with the little radio controlled UFO she’d got Kira for Christmas, even though she’d asked them not to play with it in the living room. She expected to hear the sound of something breaking any moment, but they sounded so happy, she didn’t have it in her to scold them.

She took a break from her cooking for a moment to look in on them. Kira was clinging to the Doctor’s back, she and the Doctor chasing the UFO around as Rose flew it just over their heads. Jackie noted that Rose looked better than she had in years: she looked younger, and her smile finally reached her eyes all the time, not just when she was interacting with Kira.

And Kira, Kira had come alive in the past few weeks. Although there were still issues, and she was now clingy with her dad as well as her mum, Jackie could see her growing in confidence.

Jackie smiled. There were times when she wanted to wring the bloody alien’s neck for what he’d done to her daughter and granddaughter. But she knew that he regretted his actions and he’d admitted his mistake. He’d come back, they were happy, and that was enough for her.

Yay for Jackie! I was waiting for her to pop in again, and I really like her observations of them as a family. I know she'll always be biased towards Rose and Kira, but her forgiveness and acceptance of the Doctor was still important.

I'm glad you enjoyed Jackie. I always find her difficult, but fun, to write.

Thank you! I like writing Jackie in these stories, because she gives almost an outsider's perspective.

I don't think Jackie could feel any other way. She wants whats best for Rose and is smart enough to know she's got it now. I always loved Jackies relationship with the Doctor even in the series; so love and hate but funny.

I adore Jackie and the Doctor's relationship, and I agree with you: it is definitely love/hate.
